Motorist killed in collision with freight train in Placentia
A motorist was killed in a collision with a freight train early Friday in Placentia, authorities said. The accident occurred about 8 a.m. near Rose Drive and Orangethorpe Avenue near the city’s border with Anaheim, said Capt. Mark Stone, spokesman for the Orange County Fire Authority.
The Burlington Northern train pushed the car about 300 yards down the track before it came to a stop, Stone said. The male driver of the car, whose name was not immediately known, died as firefighters were attempting to extract him. The track has been shut down in both directions. It was unknown why the car was on the tracks when the train was passing, Stone said.
